Great Reasons To Take A Campervan Holiday This Summer
Are you thinking about a campervan holiday this summer in Scotland? A little bit of fresh air and freedom after the last few years of covid restrictions. Here are some great reasons to book your campervan trip in Scotland?
Sourced from our own experience at Counting Sheep Campers – because we not only hire campervans but we also love to have a campervan break when we can too.
Great Reasons To Take A Campervan Holiday This Summer
A step up from camping
Camping can be great fun when the weather is good, but the Scottish weather is not always that kind. When it’s been wet or cold and you have had a long day outside having fun, you will love being nice and cosy in your campervan at night.
There is no need to pitch up your tent in the pouring rain, You simply drive to your destination, turn off the engine, pop up the roof and you’re ready to kick back/cook/relax/sleep.
Freedom to travel
You can travel when you want, where you want and as far as you want in a campervan.
There are no schedules or programmes to follow, such as those that would be in place on a typical organised tour, because you simply pick your destination or attraction and drive.
Scotland offers some amazing locations that are easily accessible by road, although some roads can be bit narrow, but this is where a campervan come into its own. There are also plenty of wonderful campsites dotted across the country, so you will rarely be far from some good facilities.
If you are keen to tour Scotland, then you might choose to hire a car and book a series of different accommodations. That can work out very expensive especially in high season and you will also need to eat out every night!
But if you hire a campervan you have your overnights and cooking arrangement sorted up-front.
The best way to reduce the cost to fill up with food shopping once you have collected your campervan or motorhome, You’ll save money and have great fun cooking your own meals in the campervan or using a BBQ.
Our modern vw campervans are easy to drive, very comfortable and have excellent fuel consumption. Spending your vacations on the move is not as expensive as you might think.
Great for family holidays
Campervan road trips are a fantastic way to travel with children. There is a great sense of adventure in a campervan, you also get to enjoy quality time together and the kids love sleeping in the roof beds!
Counting Sheep Campers off-set all the carbon produced during you campervan holiday. When you consider the carbon footprint of a typical UK family holiday in a campervan against that of a trip to Spain, it’s easy to see why a campervan holiday becomes attractive for minimising the impact your holiday may have on the environment. A return flight to Spain for a family will generate around 1.3 tonnes of CO2 emissions compared to 0.3 tonnes for a 1000 mile round trip in one of our campervans. Figures from climatecare.org CO2 calculator – www.climatecare.org
Up close with nature
Stopping at a quiet roadside, close to a beach, in a forest car park or, well, almost anywhere in rural Scotland offers the chance to get up close to the natural surroundings.
When you park up for a meal or to enjoy a relaxing rest, make sure you set up the camping chairs and simply sit back, relax and look around you.
Take your dogs, too
There is no need to book your pet into expensive kennels because our campervans are dog friendly. Simply bring the family dog with you, so they can enjoy a holiday, too.
Great combination of indoor and outdoor
You’ll find out what we mean by this the first time you park the campervan in a beautiful place. The attraction of sitting inside a comfortable campervan and looking out of an open side door is immense.
Of course, there will be times when you are happy to sit outside, times when you’ll want to be cosy inside with the doors and windows shut and many times when you’ll be content to sit in the van with the doors open looking outside.
It’s a flexible way to travel
Choosing a holiday that suits the whole family is a bit like trying to cook a dinner everyone will like. We know it’s hard to keep everyone happy!
But a campervan trip can suit sightseers, surfers, walkers, cyclists, teashop fans, board games addicts and more.
One mode of travel can be something perfect for everyone – and as part of one big holiday.
Great for groups
If a group – such as extended family or several different families – want to take a combined holiday in Scotland, you could hire several campervans at once and head off for a holiday convoy.
You’ll enjoy travelling together and staying overnight in the same campsites, yet you’ll also have the freedom to do your own thing during the daytime if you wish.
It’s a bucket list holiday
Put simply, many people have a trip in a campervan on their bucket list of holidays. So why not make it a “tick”?
